Suriname’s economic prospects are at a turning point. Neighbouring Guyana discovered oil in 2015 and has since recorded some of the fastest economic growth ever for a sovereign nation. Suriname sits on the same geological formation. An estimated 750 million barrels in recoverable reserves lie offshore and production is planned for 2028, which will be transformative for the country.
But Suriname’s ambition extends beyond just oil and gas. What matters now is what gets built around it: the infrastructure, the institutions, the private sector investment that turns a windfall into a foundation.

Paramaribo Advisory was founded by Rick Jan Molanus. His background spans the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations, the European Union External Action Service, and TotalEnergies, where he was responsible for daily political and economic intelligence reporting across the region.
The firm operates from inside Paramaribo, with access to the developments that shape Suriname’s political and business environment.
